Transmutaciones
Ana Daganzo
Transmutations project conceptually links the principles and processes of the alchemical practice with experimental photographic techniques, reinterpreting and updating this ancient science. Both disciplines maintain connections from their origins, in their processes as well as in their purposes. The photographer and the alchemist used to work using different solutions in the laboratory, mainly metals, and the aim of their experiments concluded in a symbolic search for inmortality.
The technique used is called Chemigram, a process in which the work is done directly on the photographic paper or film without the use of a camera or any other device, using only its photosensitive layer. The resulting images show the reactions of the different chemicals used and, in this case, they represent an imagery of planetary surfaces, star clusters and nebulae.
